GENERAL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative Special Education Teacher with a Dual Certification in Science in a special class setting. This middle school classroom serves neurodivergent learners, including students with autism and other learning differences. The teacher will create meaningful learning experiences through empowering every student utilizing accessible instruction and a collaborative, student-first approach.

The program provides a structured and supportive educational environment for students with diverse learning needs, including social-emotional differences, sensory/processing needs, and expressive or receptive communication challenges.

This role emphasizes not only direct instruction for our middle school students but also leadership in guiding a team of teaching assistants who support individualized student learning. The ideal candidate is skilled in fostering teamwork, providing guidance to instructional staff, and ensuring all classroom supports work together to maximize student engagement and success.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that prioritize student strengths, engagement, and measurable growth.

• Deliver instruction aligned with NYS Standards in accessible and differentiated ways to meet diverse learning needs.

• Lead and guide teaching assistants in supporting instruction, classroom management, and individualized student supports.

• Provide direction and professional modeling to ensure instructional strategies are consistently and effectively implemented.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive educational services and student-centered solutions.

• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to maximize learning outcomes and skill development.

• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages participation, growth, and student confidence.

•Communicate regularly with families to share progress, celebrate successes, and collaborate on strategies that support learning.

Position Summary:

CiTi BOCES is seeking a New York State Certified General Education Teacher to join our Middle Level Behavioral Intervention Program located at Central Square Middle School. This program serves students in grades 6–8 and is designed to provide an intensely supportive, highly structured environment that promotes social-emotional development and academic growth with the goal of successful re-entry into the student’s home school.

Program Description:

The Middle Level Behavioral Intervention Program provides positive opportunities for students to develop social-emotional skills and make meaningful academic progress. Classrooms operate in a self-contained setting with low student-to-adult ratios, clear expectations, and a highly structured environment.

The program couples strong counseling support with intensive social skills instruction and academic teaching. When students demonstrate consistent progress toward identified goals, CiTi BOCES collaborates with the host district to gradually support access to general education classrooms.

Program staffing includes a CiTi administrator, a teacher assistant in the classroom to support the teacher, and regular access to a Behavior Specialist and counselor.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver standards-based academic instruction aligned with New York State learning standards
  • Implement individualized academic and behavior plans, including Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) goals and crisis management strategies
  • Implement 504 Plans as applicable
  • Establish and maintain a structured classroom environment with consistent expectations
  • Collaborate closely with teacher assistants, Behavior Specialists, counselors, administrators
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to quarterly reviews with families and home district staff
  • Utilize data-driven decision making to support student growth and readiness for re-entry
  • Build positive, professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues
