CiTi PR is currently seeking a Public Information Assistant Aide. This is routine informational and communicative support work in the Public Relations and Print Shop/Mail Room departments of CiTi BOCES. The incumbent performs a variety of tasks related to collecting, organizing, and presenting information for internal and external audiences. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Public Information Assistant, Printer’s Assistant or higher-level staff. Does related work as required.
This title is entry-level; duties are supportive in nature. Duties are performed with some latitude, but more complex responsibilities remain with higher-level positions.
Work is performed under direct supervision. The incumbent reports to the Public Relations Coordinator or designee, with work reviewed for accuracy and compliance.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Information Support, Print and Communications Assistance
- Assists in preparing and distributing information about school programs, events, and activities to staff, students, parents, and the public.
- Drafts and organizes content for posting on official district social media accounts and websites for review of a higher-level position.
- Takes photographs and records basic video content at school events and activities for communications use.
- Assists in drafting captions, short descriptions, and other communication pieces to accompany photos and media.
- Assists with routine print-related tasks under supervision by a higher-level position.
Media, Events, and Outreach
- Provides event support, including covering school programs, meetings, and community engagement activities through photography and digital content.
- Helps maintain and update departmental calendars with media and communication deadlines.
- Coordinates with staff to collect information and materials for newsletters, fliers, and other informational documents.
Clerical and Administrative Support
- Answers informational phone calls and emails from the public, directing inquiries as needed.
- Assists with basic clerical duties such as data entry, filing, copying, and maintaining informational records.
- Prepares basic informational materials and assists in assembling resource packets as needed.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
Public Interface
- Acts as a positive information resource for students, staff, and visitors, providing courteous assistance and support.
- Assists with scheduling photo/video assignments and tracking media assets.
Emphasis of duties may vary based on school year, communication priorities, and assigned projects.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS:
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and the public.
- Basic skill in photography and digital media capture.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content procedures.
- Ability to operate office equipment and computers.
- Aptitude for learning new communication tools, print equipment and software.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage time effectively.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma. Candidates must be Civil Service eligible.
Note: Experience in photography, social media, digital media, communications, print or related internship/volunteer work is desirable but not required.
