Job Description

Position Overview:

The Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and student-centered Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired (TVI) for a full-time, temporary position to cover an upcoming leave of absence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individualized instruction and services to students who are blind or visually impaired in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and educational goals.
• Assess students' functional vision, learning needs, and access to instructional materials.
• Teach specialized skills, including assistive technology, visual efficiency, and independent learning strategies, as appropriate to student needs.
• Support the development of compensatory skills, organizational strategies, and independence in educational settings.
• Adapt instructional materials and collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure accessible learning opportunities.
• Provide consultation and guidance to general education teachers, special education staff, families, and other service providers.
• Collaborate with related service professionals and educational teams to support student progress.
• Monitor and document student performance, maintain appropriate records, and contribute to IEP development and progress reporting.
• Support the use of specialized equipment, technology, and resources designed for students with visual impairments.
• Travel between school buildings or instructional settings as required by student needs and program expectations.

Employment Type: Full-Time, Temporary, As Per Teachers' Contract

Position Duration: Leave of Absence, anticipated start Feb 2027 - June 30, 2027

Location: Oswego County, NY

 

Job Qualifications

 

• NYS certification as a Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired
• Knowledge of instructional strategies and best practices for students who are blind or visually impaired.
• Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining effective partnerships with students, families, and educational teams.
