Position Summary: CiTi BOCES is seeking a New York State Certified Elementary (Childhood Education) Teacher to join our Elementary Behavioral Intervention Program serving students in grades 3–5, located at Volney Elementary School. This program is designed for students who require an intensively supportive, highly structured instructional environment to address social-emotional and behavioral needs while continuing to make academic progress in all core content areas.
The goal of the program is to support students’ successful re-entry into their home school through targeted behavioral intervention, explicit social-emotional instruction, and high-quality elementary academic instruction.
Program Description: The Elementary Behavioral Intervention Program provides students with positive, structured opportunities to develop self-regulation, social-emotional skills, and academic competence. Instruction occurs in a self-contained classroom with low student-to-adult ratios, predictable routines, clear expectations, and proactive behavior supports.
The program integrates strong counseling support, behavior intervention services, and explicit social skills instruction alongside standards-based elementary instruction in ELA, mathematics, science, and social studies. As students demonstrate consistent progress toward academic and behavioral goals, CiTi BOCES collaborates with the host district to gradually expand access to general education settings.
Program staffing includes a CiTi administrator, a teacher assistant assigned to the classroom, and ongoing support from a counselor.
Responsibilities:
- Provide standards-based instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards across all elementary content areas
- Implement individualized academic and behavioral plans, including Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) goals and crisis management strategies
- Implement 504 Plans and other student-specific supports as applicable
- Create and maintain a highly structured, predictable classroom environment with consistent routines and expectations
- Collaborate closely with teacher assistants, counselors, administrators, and district partners
- Monitor student progress and participate in quarterly reviews with families and home school staff
- Utilize data-driven decision making to support academic growth, behavioral improvement, and re-entry readiness
- Build positive, professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Maintain a trauma-informed, relationship-based approach to instruction and behavior support
