This position is a professional-level position, at the Oswego County CITI BOCES, responsible for providing education and referrals for teen-aged youth regarding health issues involving relationships and human sexuality. Individual must be able to establish working relationships with youth and provide individual and classroom educational sessions to students regarding the topics of relationships, sexual decision making, human sexuality, contraception, sexually-transmitted infections, pregnancy, etc.
PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:
Typical activities characteristic of the class.
- Maintains working relationships with school personnel and community agencies;
- Provides classroom and community presentations on issues related to relationships, human sexuality topics and puberty;
- Provides individual/small group educational sessions to students requesting information relating to relationships, human sexuality, abstinence, contraception, and sexually transmitted infections;
- Refers students to appropriate school personnel and outside agencies for help dealing with
- family, drugs, alcohol, suicide, mental health concerns, abuse, and other issues;
- Arranges for confidential pregnancy testing for students requesting the service provided by the Oswego County Health Department, and provides options for counseling and referrals for healthcare if needed;
- Transports students to reproductive health care appointments with parental permission;
- Prepares program-related reports and statistics;
- Reports to officials when there is reasonable cause to suspect that a youth is abused or maltreated.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, specialized background, training and experience.
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a bachelor's degree in education, human services, social science, or closely related field and one year of professional experience in teaching, social casework or human services counseling involving youth; OR
B. Graduation from regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a bachelor's degree and two years of the experience outlined in "A" above; OR
C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of "A" and "B" above.
Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Candidates will be eligible to take the Teen Health Issues Educator Civil Service exam and be reachable to retain position.
