Position Summary: The intern will serve as a Principal intern to lead the daily operations of an extended school year program. The intern will provide support to the special education administration team in ensuring compliance with special education laws, coordinating services, and supporting educators, students, and families. This internship offers hands-on experience in special education leadership, implementation of laws and regulations, and student advocacy. Opportunities exist serving the following populations: students with multiple disabilities, students with intellectual and emotional disabilities, students with autism, and students in our day treatment program.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative & Compliance Support:
- Assist in organizing and maintaining student records, including Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and evaluation reports.
- Help ensure compliance with federal and state special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Support the preparation and documentation of CSE meetings as applicable, progress reports, and other special education-related documentation.
Program Coordination & Support:
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating team meetings, professional development sessions, and trainings for staff.
- Work with special education teachers and service providers to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and support.
- Ensure the implementation of IEPs and behavioral intervention plans (BIPs).
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as a liaison between parents, teachers, therapists, and administrators regarding special education services.
- Help draft and distribute informational materials on special education policies, services, and resources.
- Assist in responding to inquiries from parents and staff regarding special education rights and procedures.
Student & Classroom Support:
- Observe special education classrooms and provide administrative support for inclusive learning environments.
- Assist in monitoring student progress and help develop strategies to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Support the implementation of assistive technology and other accommodations for students with disabilities.
Data Collection & Reporting:
- Help collect and analyze data on student progress, special education service delivery, and intervention outcomes.
- Support the development of reports for school administrators and district officials regarding special education programs and compliance.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure proper handling of student records and sensitive information.
