This position involves responsibility for performing a variety of vocational duties for the Adult
Education and Literacy Program as well as advising and assisting adult education students with the application
process for aid for tuition for CiTi courses. The incumbent works with federal, state, and local agencies in
coordinating aid disbursement and provides financial aid information and services to secondary students and
the general public. The incumbent schedules student drive time appointments. Supervision is not a
responsibility of this position.
PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Advises and assists candidate and students with FAFSA application;
- Reviews financial aid application to calculate Pell and Loan award;
- Works with third parties offering funding/aid to students;
- Creates and monitors payment plans of students;
- Maintains financial aid handbook and ensures compliance with Title IV regulations;
- Corresponds with students regarding payment plans; Disburses aid funds; Processes financial aid
terminations and provides necessary information to the students;
- Collects and maintains student data and student financial files;
- Completes reports related to contracts, grants, financial aid, student data, etc., as assigned;
- Schedules, plans and teaches workshops to clients in vocational or life skills topics for large or small groups;
- Provides job search and application training (through aid of internet job search) and job readiness training:
- CDL Scheduling - Maintain schedule of CDL drive time - Contact students for scheduling, work with
instructors when adjustments are needed. Verify student payment status when scheduling.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be Civil Service eligible
Education, specialized background, training and experience.
A. Possession of a bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, accounting, a social
science, economics or marketing or related field and one (1) year of professional experience in financial counseling,
accounting, auditing or as a counselor, caseworker, employment interviewer, job analyst, training facilitator, or other
closely related position; OR B. Possession of a bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience as stated in “A”; OR
C. Possession of an associate’s degree and four (4) years of experience as stated in “A”; OR D. An equivalent
combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of "A", "B" and “C” above. Applicants must take the
Adult Education Specialist civil service exam and be reachable to obtain position.
This position will be provisional. Candidates must take and pass Adult Education Specialist exam and be reachable.
