Job Description

The Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation (CiTi BOCES) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Special Education Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching High School Social Studies to students with autism or students exhibiting other neurodivergent characteristics. This role requires a strong understanding of special education practices, a commitment to individualized instruction, and the ability to develop engaging and accessible lesson plans.

The A+ program is designed to provide a balanced educational program for students K-12 in a highly structured environment. Students may also display social-emotional delays, academic skill deficits, sensory/processing needs and have expressive and receptive communication delays. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with autism.
  • Teach secondary social studies curriculum, adapting materials and methods to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies to support student learning and engagement.
  • Collaborate with other educators, related services providers, and support staff to provide comprehensive educational services.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction as needed.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid New York State teaching certification in Special Education.
  • Valid New York State teaching certification in 7-12 Social Studies preferred.
  • Experience working with students with autism, preferably in a secondary education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Patience, creativity, and a passion for teaching.
