Job Description

CiTi BOCES has a full-time opening for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired effective September 1, 2024.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine students’ visual impairments and their impact on learning.
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments.
• Provide direct instruction and support to students in areas such as braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and adaptive technology.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other specialists to ensure students’ access to the curriculum.
• Adapt materials and teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of visually impaired students.
• Teach skills related to daily living, independent travel, and social interaction.
• Attend IEP meetings and contribute expertise on visual impairment.
• May work with students who have additional disabilities.
• Itinerant responsibilities will travel to multiple locations.

Job Qualifications

• New York State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
• Knowledge of braille and assistive technology.
• Experience working with students with visual impairments preferred.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
