Job Description

(CiTi BOCES) is currently seeking a certified Special Education Teacher, preferably with experience teaching high school math. As a special education teacher in a high school 6:1:2 classroom, you will provide specialized math instruction and support to a small group of students with very high needs in most or all needed areas, including academic, social and/or interpersonal development, physical development, and management. You will work collaboratively with 2 full-time paraprofessionals, a counselor, behavior specialist, administrator, and other related service providers to create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment for your students. You will also implement individualized education plans (IEPs), monitor student progress, and communicate with families and other stakeholders.

 Job Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver instruction that is aligned with the New York State Learning Standards and the students’ IEP goals and objectives.
• Use evidence-based practices and strategies to address the students’ behavioral, social, and emotional challenges and foster their self-regulation, communication, and social skills.
• Provide frequent and positive feedback, reinforcement, and encouragement to the students.
• Assess and document the students’ academic and functional performance using formal and informal measures.
• Collaborate with the paraprofessionals, counselors, behavior specialists, administrators, and other related service providers to coordinate services and interventions for the students.
• Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment that meets the students’ physical, sensory, and emotional needs.
• Communicate regularly and effectively with the students’ families, school staff, and other professionals involved in the students’ education.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in special education or a related field.
• Valid New York State teaching certification in students with disabilities 7-12 or all grades & Math 7-12.
• Experience working with students with significant behavioral, social and emotional challenges preferred.
• Knowledge of the New York State Learning Standards, the IEP process, and the special education regulations and policies.
• Skills in using data to inform instruction, differentiate instruction, and implement positive behavior interventions and supports.
• Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with diverse students, families, and colleagues.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
